it’s on

I’ve got a soft spot for when there’s nothing left,

And I can’t control my final breath

With you, with you,

With you,

I’ve got a weakness for when you say please,

Your voice is higher than the trees,

Let go, let if flow,

Tonight,

What’s the point of going home soon,

When I’ve got the extra room?

Just stay a while and don’t be shy,

We can watch the night slip on by,

What’s the point of leaving this?

Cause you know that you will miss,

The city lights and summer nights,

It’s on, it’s on tonight

I’ve feeble for your flaws and all,

And the difference between autumn and fall,

Oh yeah, it’s there,

Tonight,

If the summer breeze is cold and slow,

You will never have to go,

Oh no, you’ve got a place with me.

Your demeanor makes me faint,

No problems, no complaints,

Any time that’ you’d like,

Day or night, tonight

Tie Dye T

What do I want? What’s my next direction.  This year, I’ve released an album with my band Saints and Strangers and recorded half of another one.  A lot of partying was accomplished this year, too. I’m pretty proud of that one.  I’ve met a lot of friends, got good grades, and sent in my transfer application to UW Madison.  Took a couple successful vacations and made some money working at home.

Too standard.

Dreams. I want to climb mountains or some shit.  I want to sky dive and drive motorcycles.  too much ambition maybe? for my hometown, but not the world.  I want to change my white T to a tie dye.

Goals. Sell lots of Saints & Strangers cds.  Write rap album.  find a job in a different state for the summer.  Network with different musicians.  Fall in love with a sultry jezebel with a beautiful singing voice. become an action movie star.  Marry Zooey Deschanel.  choke a midget.  smile more.

Organic Intellectuals

Lifted up by a shadow with our backs against the wall,

Time crawls, but we’re not phased at all,

they have the power,

but we have the power,

and as we’re forced to pick up the pieces,

rising up, like a proletarian Jesus,

the light is brighter now,

we know what we must do,

——(chorus)

Follow your feet and let them walk far,

with shoes of retreat, you’ll never get far,

with soles of your soul, arise from the hate,

if it’s this place you’re put into, get out of that place——

kick the gravel like complacency, live in the moment,

the future is open, stand up and own it,

what are we waiting for?

tell them what they try to ignore.

Say, “fuck that, we won’t pick up the pieces,”

to each we are our own proletarian Jesus,

and the light is brighter now,

and we’re all singing loud.

Make It Last

The Illest

In a dimly lit room, listening to Jay Z & Kanye West, the smell of eggs and mushrooms wafting in the air, thirty thousand and fifty three keyboards in my immediate vicinity: This is how my week in Madison is being spent.  This combination will create the illest record of all time. Saints & Strangers, represent.

Hometown

I stop and stare, look at this place,

It’s a quarter after ten and I’ve had a taste,

Of what it means to be alive,

I stopped breathing just in time,

I live my life, with time well spent,

Friends and foes and drinks and rent,

This past year has been a messy blur,

But you clear up the picture,

(Chorus)

You’re the home in my hometown,

You’re the map that leads my feet,

right back home where I belong,

So there’s a chance that we can meet,

again and again,

Like the back of a postcard,

You’re the home in my hometown,

and that’s the only part I need

Life moves fast but I’m pretty sure,

Some things should be kept familiar,

And if I got a taste of your pretty face,

I would never give up the flavor,

This past year spent so far away,

With Christmas just another day,

But when just first pops up ahead,

You know I’ll be back home,

(chorus)

Bridge—-

I bet stars look better from the country with you,

I watch the city lights, wishing some stars would cloud my view
